The current Six Degree of Freedom (6DoF) instrumentation system, used to obtain store trajectory and acceleration data during flight test, has been in service for over 20 years. The current 6DoF product line is being discontinued. To maintain and improve on this capability, an effort has begun to replace the 6DoF instrumentation system with a new version.
This new version is expected to be completed by spring 2023 before the current version is discontinued. This new 6DoF is intended to provide multiple improvements, including: USB interface, plug and play sensors, encryption, Wi-Fi, and extended battery life. Off-the-shelf microprocessor boards, like the Raspberry Pi, will function as the base. Open architecture and open source code will be used as much as possible to allow other programs to build upon this technology.
